도화김소영 2023년 개인전 : I'm still walking : 나는 여전히 걸어가는 중입니다

Prologue

Hello, I'm artist Dohwa Kim Soyoung.

I am pleased to announce the publication of my first essay. This book contains stories from my nine pilgrimages on the Camino de Santiago, 13 years of work since I majored in ceramics, and the experiences I’ve had living in the remote mountains of Gangwon-do for four years.

This solo exhibition is an opportunity to present works based on the content of the essay, with the essay also serving as the exhibition catalog. The exhibition space spans two floors, totaling 120 pyeong (approx. 400 square meters), and you can view around 200-300 diverse works. 95% of the exhibited works are new, including representative pieces such as <Universe Stars>, <Ceramic Carnation>, <Golden Turtle>, <Flowers>, and works based on the theme of <Camino de Santiago>. In addition to fine art pieces, you will also be able to enjoy and purchase tableware, accessories, small items, and merchandise.

Thanks to the support of collectors over the past 13 years, I have been able to continue my work steadily, and through last year’s solo exhibition, I have been able to focus even more on turning my long-held dreams into reality. This exhibition is also a continuation of that journey. Through my works, I hope to share the comfort and inspiration I have gained from the path I’ve walked as an artist, the Camino de Santiago, and my life in the countryside.

I hope that through this exhibition and essay, you will find a little courage and inspiration to walk your own path. I am happy to share this journey with you, and I hope this exhibition will become a precious opportunity for that.

안녕하세요, 도화 김소영 작가입니다. 곧 저의 첫 에세이가 출간됩니다. 이 책에는 9번에 걸친 산티아고 순례길, 도예를 전공한 후 13년간 이어온 작업의 이야기, 그리고 4년간 강원도 산골에서 귀촌하며 느낀 경험들이 담겨 있습니다.

이번 개인전은 이 에세이의 내용을 바탕으로 한 작품들을 선보이는 자리로, 에세이가 전시의 도록 역할도 하고 있습니다. 전시 공간은 120평에 달하는 두 층으로, 약 200-300점의 다양한 작품을 만나보실 수 있습니다. 전시 작품의 95%가 신작이며, 대표작인 <우주별>을 비롯해 <도자기 카네이션>, <금거북이>, <꽃>, <산티아고 순례길>을 주제로 한 작품들도 함께 전시됩니다. 파인아트 작품뿐만 아니라 테이블웨어, 악세사리, 소품, 굿즈도 감상하고 구매하실 수 있습니다.

지난 13년 동안 컬렉터분들의 응원 덕분에 꾸준히 작업을 이어올 수 있었고, 작년 개인전을 통해 오랜 꿈을 현실로 만들어가는 과정에 더욱 매진해 왔습니다. 이번 전시 역시 그 여정의 연장선상에 있습니다. 아티스트로서 고군분투하며 걸어온 길과 산티아고 순례길, 귀촌 생활 속에서 얻은 위로와 영감을 작품을 통해 여러분과 나누고 싶습니다.

이번 전시와 에세이를 통해 여러분도 자신의 길을 걸어가는 데 작은 용기와 영감을 얻으실 수 있기를 바랍니다. 여러분과 이 여정을 함께 나눌 수 있어 기쁘고, 이번 전시가 그 소중한 기회의 장이 되기를 바랍니다.
