: Opening the Window of the Soul



An exhibition of ceramic paintings that explores the inner self through emotions.


Kim So-young's first solo exhibition delves into the artist's inner emotions through ceramic painting. Over time, the artist has explored her inner world through this unique medium. In particular, themes such as the window to the soul, love, pain, excitement, obsession, beliefs, and carpe diem are expressed, presenting new artistic horizons. These themes reflect the various emotions the artist experiences and carries with her.


The centerpiece of this exhibition, Window of the Soul, is a large ceramic piece shaped like an eye. It feels as if it is a window through which we can peer into the depths of our souls, honestly revealing the artist’s inner world to the audience.


Kim So-young's first solo exhibition not only offers inspiration and comfort to viewers but also serves as an opportunity for introspection, helping others reflect on their inner selves and find their true identity.

도화 김소영 작가의 첫 개인전. 작가의 내면의 감정에 대한 이야기를 도자기 회화 작업으로 풀어내었습니다. 김소영 작가는 오랜 시간 동안 도자기 회화 작업을 통해 자신의 내면을 탐구해 왔습니다. 특히, 영혼의 창, 사랑, 상처, 설레임, 강박관념, 신념, 까르페디엠 등 작가가 평소에 느끼고 동반하는 다양한 감정을 작품에 담아내며 예술적 표현의 새로운 지평을 제시하고 있습니다.


이번 전시의 메인 작품인 '영혼의 창'은 커다란 눈을 형상화한 도자기 작품입니다. 마치 우리 영혼의 깊은 곳을 들여다볼 수 있는 창처럼, 작가의 내면 세계를 관람객들에게 솔직하게 보여주는 듯한 느낌을 줍니다.


김소영 작가의 첫 개인전은 관람객들에게 감동과 위로를 선사하는 동시에, 자신의 내면을 돌아보고 진정한 자아를 찾는 계기가 되는 전시입니다.

The eyes are the windows that illuminate the deepest parts of our souls. Within them lie our thoughts, emotions, and experiences, revealing how we interact and connect with the world around us.


However, in the fast-paced life of modern society, we often forget our true selves, swayed by the gaze of others. We live unhappy lives to appear better in others' eyes or hide our true desires, trying to fit into societal expectations.


But what is truly important to us?

"Are we living without forgetting what truly matters in life?"

The answer to this question lies in answering the question, "What is most important to me?"


The journey to rediscover your true self and find true happiness is not easy, but it is never too late. Open your eyes now and listen closely to the depths of your soul. There, you will find your true self and the happiness that lies hidden within.










영혼의 창



눈은 우리 영혼의 깊숙한 곳을 비추는 창입니다. 그 안에는 우리의 사고, 감정, 경험들이 담겨 있으며, 우리가 세상과 어떻게 교감하고 연결되는지를 보여줍니다.

하지만 현대 사회의 빠른 삶 속에서 우리는 종종 진정한 자아를 잊고, 타인의 시선에 휘둘리며 살아가곤 합니다. 남의 눈에 더 잘 보이기 위해 행복하지 않은 삶을 살거나, 진정 원하는 것을 숨기고 살아가기도 합니다.


하지만 우리에게 가장 중요한 것은 무엇일까요? 우리는 인생에서 가장 중요한 것들을 잊지 않고 살아가고 있나요?

이 질문에 대한 답은 바로 "나에게 가장 중요한 것은 무엇인가?" 라는 질문에 대한 답과 함께 있습니다.


진정한 자아를 되찾고, 진정한 행복을 찾는 여정은 쉽지 않지만, 결코 늦지 않았습니다. 지금 바로 눈을 뜨고, 여러분의 영혼 속 깊은 곳에 귀 기울여보세요. 거기에는 여러분의 진정한 모습과 행복이 숨겨져 있습니다.













Wounds


The various wounds I have received up until now, especially those related to love, are something I aimed to transcend through art. For the artist, love is "an organic solid that does not harden, bearing the name of passion," and it is the very reason for living.


However, heartbreak and separation from loved ones have left both big and small wounds. The determination to overcome and grow from these wounds is expressed through intense colors and techniques in the artwork. Red symbolizes the boiling passion, white represents purity and clarity with no desires, and black stands for wounds, trials, and pain that cannot be washed away.

The artist says, "Creating a work that brings something out of nothing is a joyful act." The artwork goes beyond being simply a beautiful piece of art; it serves as an outlet for the artist's emotions.








상처


지금까지 받아온 다양한 상처들, 특히 사랑에 대한 상처를 예술로 승화시키고자 했습니다. 작가에게 사랑은 '열정의 이름을 가진 굳어버리지 않는 유기적인 고체'이며, 살아가는 이유 그 자체입니다. 


그러나 사랑하는 사람과의 실연과 이별은 크고 작은 상처를 남겼습니다. 이러한 상처들을 극복하고 성장하려는 의지는 작품 속에서 강렬한 색채와 표현으로 나타납니다. 붉은색은 끓어오르는 열정을, 흰색은 아무것도 바라지 않는 순수함과 맑음을, 검정은 상처와 시련, 씻겨내 지지 않는 아픔을 의미합니다.


작가는 "무에서 유를 창조해내는 작품을 만드는 건 행복한 일이다"라고 말합니다. 작품은 단순히 아름다운 예술 작품을 넘어, 작가의 감정을 담아낸 탈출구 역할을 합니다.  작품을 통해 사랑에 대한 상처를 극복하고 성장하며, 관람객들에게도 감동과 위로를 건내고자 합니다.

What we see with our eyes.
What we do not see with our eyes.
What we once saw can disappear at any moment, and what we couldn’t see can suddenly appear.

Our emotions, mine and yours, appeared and disappeared, only to reappear and then hide away again.

The moment.

The pieces of the past that can never be reassembled, and the pieces of the future that will never align. To prevent the completion of the piece called regret.

"Let’s stay true to the emotions of this present moment we are living."


Kim So-young's works express the importance of focusing on what we can and cannot see, as well as the significance of concentrating on the present.

The artist freely navigates between the visible reality of the external world and the unseen emotions of the inner self, creating works that reflect both. The reality of the world is expressed through various colors and forms, while internal emotions are portrayed through abstract expressions and symbolism.


Through the theme of ‘the moment,’ the artist emphasizes the importance of living in the present. The past is already gone, and the future has yet to come, so what matters most is right now. Instead of lingering in regrets from the past or being swept away by anxieties about the future, the artist conveys the message to live faithfully in the emotions of the present moment.

우리 눈에 보인다.

우리 눈에 보이지 않는다.

우리 눈에 보였던 것들은 어느 순간 보이지 않기도 하고 보이지 않았던 것들이 보이기도 한다.

너와 나의 감정들이 보였다가 사라졌다가 다시 나타나기도 했다가 이내 숨어버리기도 한다.

순간.

다시는 맞추어지지 않는 과거의 조각이자 다시는 맞추어지지 않을 미래의 조각들.

후회라는 조각의 완성이 나오지 않도록.

"지금 살고 있는 현재 이 순간의 감정에 충실하자."



김소영 작가의 작품들은 우리가 눈으로 볼 수 있는 것과 볼 수 없는 것, 그리고 현재에 집중하는 것의 중요성을 표현합니다.

작가는 우리가 눈으로 볼 수 있는 현실 세계와 눈에 보이지 않는 내면의 감정 사이를 자유롭게 오가며 작품을 창조합니다. 현실 세계의 모습은 다양한 색채와 형태로 표현되고, 내면의 감정은 추상적인 표현과 상징을 통해 나타납니다.
